Merger or Betrayal? - Ahn Cheol-soo Drops Presidential Run and Supports Yoon Seok-yeol

Well, it finally happened. Ahn Cheol-soo has officially dropped out of the 2022 South Korean presidential race and has merged his candidacy with rival Yoon Seok-yeol of the conservative People's Power Party. But will all of his supporters follow him to vote for Yoon, or will more peel off to support liberal front-runner Lee Jae-myung?

Most polls show that Yoon wins Ahn's voters by a clear margin. But many in this election are protesting the lack of choices. Voices from the public say they'll abstain but it remains to be seen how many would actually go through with not exercising their democratic right. Ahn has promised to help Yoon win the Blue House in these last critical days as early voting is currently underway.

Election day is Wednesday, March 9, 2022. By election law, no more opinion polls can be published to the media six days before an election. So the neck and neck race between Yoon Seok-yeol and Lee Jae-myung may be our last accurate snapshot of voter sentiment before a new leader is elected next week.
