Goodbye Brother - How Lee Jae Myeong Tried to Lock Up His Brother in a Psychiatric Hospital

A new book titled "Goodbye, Lee Jae Myung" details a year-long campaign by the current Democratic Party's presidential candidate to illegally lock up his own brother in a psychiatric hospital. It's become a bestseller in South Korea and adds to the list of the voting public's misgivings with the controversial candidate.

It all started because his brother left an online comment that the then mayor did not like. Some sibling rivalry got triggered and then exploded into a vendetta that exposed the lengths that someone would go to use instruments of government power to settle personal pleasure.

Surprisingly, the law to prevent illegal forced hospitalizations into psychiatric wards was only revised in 2017! No wonder Koreans are still wary of pursuing mental health care. They wouldn’t want any opportunistic family members to lock them away because of longstanding grudges.

That’s some real K-drama we need to fix.
