No One Else Will Say This But I Will About K-Pop's Fandom

It's time we call out the difference between K-pop fans and K-pop idol worshippers. Just because you're not a sasaeng fan, it doesn't mean you may not be crossing the line. The first step is to be able to recognize the difference between normal fans and so-called fans who bring the music industry down.

A true fan is loved by the artist because each person has their own identity and respects the other. An idol worshipper wants to control the artist as an extension of their own identity. There is no division between the fan and the artist in the mind of the fan. It's a highly uncomfortable position for the artist who has to be gracious to someone who may be dangerous to them and their family.

This type of idol worshipper does not necessarily need to be physically in conflict with the artist. They can wreak havoc as a keyboard warrior as we've seen here as well. The K-pop industry needs to take responsibility for accepting this behavior from its fans out of fear of alienating its customer base.

It should work together to find a solution to segment this volatile population from the regular fan base and promote a proper code of conduct.
