Korean YouTuber Song Ji-a Scandal: Fake Designer Clothes
YouTuber and reality TV star Song Ji-a a.k.a. "Freezia" took down her social media except for an apology video because netizens sleuthed out counterfeit items among her name brand filled life. But why are fake designer labels seemingly more of a betrayal than many of the political scandals facing South Korea? Perhaps those enraged may be better off reflecting on their own obsessions with material luxury or lack thereof.
What she did was wrong of course. But worse are those who feel betrayed that the idol they were worshipping turned out to be fake. Instead of trying to chastise her to find a more perfect idol as a replacement, they should look at themselves and ask why they need such idolatry in the first place.
