One Year Anniversary of the Son Jung Min Mystery

Han River Case Still Unsolved

It's been one year since medical student Son Jung Min and his friend went for a late-night picnic at the Banpo Han River Park in Seoul. Only one of them would return that night. And it's been a mystery that's dodged every valid attempt for evidence gathering and analysis since. As a new 'psycho on the river' case has flooded the news, we see the stark contrast to how a suspect is treated when they are a rich, young male vs. a poor, shameful girl. However, today is about honoring the memory and legacy of Son Jung Min.

A decision on the release of CCTV footage is expected in June. Yet to the public's own detriment, most have forgotten how South Korea let open a dangerous Pandora's Box by allowing this injustice to become normalized. As evidenced by the Lee Eun-hye case (riverside psycho), which we will begin this week, the SJM tragedy has only emboldened less sophisticated criminals to believe they can get away with anything.
