What to Expect from South Korea's Next President - Yoon Seok-yeol and U.S. Relations

Don't get your hopes up with new South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol when it comes to domestic policy. His razor thin win in the 20th presidential election means his political enemies will try to sabotage anything he tries. Rather, he may have more success in being Korea's global president and focus on foreign relations. Even though his experience in this area is limited (we had slim pickings!), his advisors will help the nation strengthen security and economic alliances to secure Korea's standing in the world order.

We do have to watch that wife though. She probably won't change her stripes and be sure to expect all sorts of shaman-fueled shenanigans. But a dotard president out of touch with the times and a penchant for using misogyny to get elected may offer civil society the fuel to finally break out of a dependent mindset. A president will never deliver what society wants and can do for itself. With no expectations that President Yoon will advance social progress, it's now opportune time for Korea's citizenry to find its own power and change the system.
